If you want to grow annuals or perennials from seeds, get a soil
test first through your University of Georgia Extension Service
county office.
Test to see whether the soil needs lime. Then follow the soil
test recommendations and prepare the seedbed carefully.

Use 3 cubic yards of compost or peat moss to cover each 1,000
square feet 1 inch deep. The organic matter will help keep the
soil from getting too compact and will help it hold needed
moisture.
Add 1 pound of nitrogen per 100 square feet of bed. Then till the
soil to 8 inches deep and rake it smooth. Plant the seeds and
mark the seeded rows or areas with identifying labels.
Keep the soil moist but not wet. Water daily until the seedlings
have emerged and the young plants are established. Then back off
the watering gradually. Protect the young seedlings from late
frosts.
