University of Georgia

With the economy limping, many people are trying to make ends
meet by getting into the landscape business. Or they’re thinking
about it.

For them and others who haven’t been in the business long, the
University of Georgia offers the 2003 Business Skills and
Practical Skills Workshops for Beginning Landscaping and Lawn
Care Professionals.

The workshops will be Oct. 15-17 at the Bamboo Farm and Coastal
Gardens in Savannah, Ga., and Oct. 29-31 at Gwinnett Technical
Institute in Lawrenceville, Ga. They feature expert advice on
everything from hiring help to troubleshooting plant problems.

Three days

The three days include instruction at all levels. Days one and
two cover business skills needed in the industry.

Day three is set aside for practical skills training. This
includes pesticide recertification credits to people who hold a
commercial or private license in Georgia or South Carolina.

For a detailed schedule, visit the Web site at www.ces.uga.edu/
business-skills.htm.

A $100 fee (or a separate fee for each workshop) includes three
days of instruction from university faculty and industry pros,
printed materials, refreshment breaks and lunch on days two and
three.

Daily events begin at 8 a.m. and end at 4 p.m. A detailed list of
fees is included on the registration form on-line.
