Greenhouse growers, hobby gardeners or even beginners will find
the Southeast Greenhouse Conference and Trade Show June 19-22 in
Greenville, S.C., an exciting event.
For the 10th year, growers, industry representatives, scientists
and students will gather for this unique event. The event has
become a cornerstone for the greenhouse industry in the
Southeast.
The trade show attracted nearly 3,000 attendees and 1,250
exhibitors in 2001. Each year it offers growers a look at the
latest in greenhouse technology, from crops, containers and
greenhouse coverings to potting machines, transplanters and
structures.
Besides the trade show, the educational classes and workshops are
hard to pass by. Scientists and veteran growers share information
on growing techniques and marketing for the emerging new crops
and cultivars that are fast becoming hot items on the market.
The hands-on workshops offer:
- PRZM: plant root zone management.
- Scouting, pest identification and diagnosis for greenhouse
crops. - Spanish for growers.
- Poinsettia update.
- Using a digital camera in your operation.
- Plant growth regulators.
- Production and marketing of aquatic plants.
- Taking the risk (and the liability) out of pesticide
management.
Georgia growers will be able to take part in the Georgia Flower Growers
Association annual meeting. They’ll share ideas and discuss
current issues in the industry, such as tax relief on fuel.
SGCTS attendees get two chances, too, at grand prizes: free trips
for two to the 2003 California Pack Trials. (For a bedding plant
grower, going to this tour of the industry’s leading plant
breeders would be like a kid going to Disney World.) One prize
will be drawn on June 21 and the other on June 22.
SGCTS attendees may also be able to win other prizes, such as
fertilizer, plugs and chemicals.
The early fee for the three-day conference is $109, which
includes three of the optional workshops. Fees for the other
workshops range from $40 to $476. All fees are higher after June
4.
