Beautiful Day for Landscape
Lovers

Whether you landscape professionally or just go for gorgeous
in your own yard, you
won’t want to miss the Ornamental Horticulture Open House Oct.
1 at the University of
Georgia Athens campus.

The UGA Department of Horticulture and the State Botanical
Garden of Georgia have put
together an exciting tour of research plots, variety trials and
display gardens.

At the horticulture farm, you’ll see the latest research on
soil amendments, including
Permatil, Mycor, mushroom compost and poultry litter. You’ll
also see an extensive
collection of new woody plants that UGA horticulture professor
Michael Dirr
is evaluating.

Trial Gardens

The annual and perennial trial gardens on the UGA campus
will be ablaze with color.
You’ll want to note which varieties perform best in the
late-summer heat.

Wear comfortable walking shoes and cool clothing. And be
prepared for a fact-filled day
with the faculty and staff (rain or shine).

The tours will start promptly at 9 a.m. from the upper

sites. To sign up, or to learn more about the event, contact
the county extension office.
