Whitetail deer are beautiful creatures. But what they do to
gardens and farm fields isn’t pretty at all. To help prevent the
damage they can do, University of Georgia experts have planned a
pair of programs on building deer fences in June.

The deer-fence seminar and workshop for south Georgia will be
June 15 at the UGA Attapulgus Research Farm a mile north of
Attapulgus, Ga., on Highway 27.

The other program will be June 22 at the UGA Georgia Mountain
Experiment Station 3 miles south of Blairsville, Ga., on Highway
129.

Participants will get a set of plans for building deer fences.
And they can get hands-on experience as UGA and industry experts
erect fencing at the UGA stations.

Each program will begin at 9 a.m. and end at 3:30 p.m. Lunch
will
be provided, and registration is free.

If you’d like to attend, please call Kay Dunn at (912) 386-3410
so planners can know how much lunch to prepare. If you’d like to
work with the fencing, bring a shovel, hammer and gloves.
