TIFTON – Anyone who wants to learn more about research to
eliminate or reduce toxic chemicals in crops should attend a
field day on the University of Georgia Tifton Campus Sept. 22.
Registration begins at 9:30 at the arboretum on Rainwater Rd. in
Tifton, Ga.
The field day is sponsored by Georgia Organics, the United
States Department of Agriculture and the UGA College of
Agricultural and Environmental Sciences.
Attendees will tour three research farms where they will see
ongoing experiments by USDA and UGA CAES scientists. Topics
include alternative summer and winter cover crops, weed
suppression, covers and farmscaping as pest-management tools,
organic no-till planting and peanut varieties bred for better
disease resistance.
There will also be demonstrations of equipment designed or
modified for organic growing in no-till and conventional tillage
situations.
