Georgia’s high school-aged military dependents can get to know other military teens and learn about special programs, available just for them, at the first statewide Military Youth Symposium, set for Wednesday, June 24, in Warner Robins, Georgia.
The symposium will be held at the Robins Air Force Base’s Horizons Event Center. Registration opens at 9 a.m., the opening ceremony is set for 10:15 a.m. and the symposium will conclude at 5 p.m.
Sponsored by University of Georgia Extension Military Outreach and Georgia National Guard youth programs, the event is open to all Georgia high school-aged, military-dependent youth from all active duty installations in Georgia National Guard and Reserve components.
Organizers expect to host up to 100 military-dependent youth, representing all the active duty installations in Georgia.
“The purpose for this symposium is to allow military-dependent youth from across Georgia to meet and network with their peers, to learn about programs and information that can help military youth in their community, and to find ways to work together to help all of the military youth of the state,” said Brian Stone, coordinator at UGA Extension Military Outreach.
Members of the National Guard State Youth Council and the Georgia Military Youth Advisory Council are helping to plan and present the symposium. In addition to activities designed to encourage interaction, the symposium will include lunch and a series of workshops on military and other youth issues.
