Host Walter Reeves offers advice on summer vegetables, melons,
peaches and azaleas on “Gardening in Georgia” June 25 on Georgia
Public Broadcasting.

“Gardening in Georgia” is produced by GPB and the University of
Georgia College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences. It
airs each Saturday at 12:30 and 7 p.m.

On this week’s show, Reeves revisits some vegetables he planted
in an earlier show at the UGA Research and Education Garden in
Griffin, Ga.

UGA entomologist Dan Horton then shows how tough it is to control
insects on peaches. He describes some integrated pest management
techniques you can follow in growing backyard peaches. One good
tip: get the UGA publication, “2002
Disease and Insect IPM in the Home Orchard
.”

It’s just about watermelon time, and UGA horticulturist emeritus
Wayne McLaurin tells about the varieties, planting and culture of
melons in your own home garden.

Finally, Reeves tackles the question, “Will a florist azalea
survive and produce flowers outside?” You bet, he says — if you
give it special care during the first year after you plant it.
