Hayes receives UGA young alumni achievement award

John R. Hayes received a University of Georgia College of
Agricultural and Environmental Sciences Alumni Association young
alumni achievement award Sept. 16 in Athens, Ga.

Hayes received his bachelor’s degree in environmental economics
and management from UGA in 1995 and his master’s in agricultural
economics in 1997. He is general manager and partner of Lasseter
Implement Company in Hazlehurst, Ga.

“He is highly motivated, dedicated and displays a strong work
ethic,” said Larry Christenson, Dallas sales branch manager for
John Deere.

Hayes began his career as a marketing representative for the
Atlanta branch of John Deere. He was promoted to territory
aftermarket manager in Mississippi and has held territory manager
positions in Abilene, Tex., and Statesboro, Ga.

“John’s product knowledge and agronomic background allowed him to
deliver market-share performance that ranks as one of highest in
John Deere Company,” said David C. Gilmore, manager, Frontier
Equipment, John Deere.

In 2000 and 2003, his outstanding job performance and leadership
skills were recognized with the John Deere Leader’s Circle Award,
which rewarded the top 14 Territory Managers in the U.S. and
Canada.

As a student, Hayes was involved in the Georgia Agribusiness
Council, the student section of the American Agricultural
Economics Association, Gamma Sigma Delta National Agricultural
Honor Society and Blue Key National Honor Fraternity.

In 2003, he was awarded the distinguished young professional
award by the Agricultural Economics Association of Georgia.
