Over the next few months, many national events will help mark the
centennial of 4-H.
- In January, President George W. Bush will sign a
proclamation. The U.S. secretaries of agriculture (Ann Veneman),
health and human services (Tommy Thompson) and education (Rod
Paige) will also sign. The three Cabinet members are among the 60
million 4-H alumni. The 4-H flag will fly over the USDA. A banner
proclaiming the 100 years will hang over the agriculture building
in Washington. - In February, the National Conversation on Youth Development
in the 21st Century will take place in Washington. About 1,600
youths and adults from across the nation will attend this last
stage in the conversations, which have gone on nationwide in
2001. - In April, a report from the conversations will be presented
to President Bush, Cabinet members, the USDA assembly, members of
Congress and USDA administration. - A virtual National 4-H Hall of Fame will also be opened on
the World Wide Web.
