This publication highlights the role of selenium in animal nutrition; selenium concentration and distribution in soils and feedstuffs (grains and forages) produced in various parts of the United States and in Georgia; disorders resulting from Selenium deficiency or toxicity; various methods of selenium supplementation; and recommendations for selenium management in Georgia. This publication is intended to serve as an educational resource for university researchers and Extension specialists, county Extension agents and livestock, forage and feed producers, among others.

El control de malezas anuales de verano es un importante desafío dentro de los programas de mantenimiento del césped en primavera. Los herbicidas de preemergencia se aplican antes de que las malezas germinen para evitar su establecimiento en céspedes. Las plántulas absorben estos herbicidas y la translocación, aunque limitada, se produce con la transpiración y el flujo de masa de los solutos de las plantas. La mayoría de los herbicidas de preemergencia inhiben la división cellular en las raíces y los brotes; pero no evitan el establecimiento de la planta a partir de los tallos vegetativos o de las malezas que están ya visiblemente presentes.

Results of the 2010-2011 performance tests of small grains grown for grain and forage are printed in this research report. Grain evaluation studies were conducted at five locations in Georgia, including Tifton, Plains and Midville in the Coastal Plain region, Griffin in the Piedmont region, Calhoun in the Limestone Valley region and at Quincy, Florida. Small grain forage evaluation tests were conducted at four locations in Georgia, which included Tifton and Plains in the Coastal Plain, Griffin in the Piedmont and Calhoun in the Limestone Valley region, and at Marianna, Florida.

2010 Tobacco Research Report
Like other agricultural enterprises, the tobacco industry has experienced a great deal of change in recent years and continues to evolve. Many challenges exist, including those associated with plant disease, soil fertility, insects, changing markets and global competition, all of which impact profitability. This report contains the most recent results of 2010 tobacco research and field trial programs at the University of Georgia.
